Norristown, PA Air Conditioner & Heater Repair

History

Norristown can trace its history to the early 18th century. At that time, it was a farmstead for the Norris family, one of Pennsylvania’s original settlers. Norristown incorporated as a town in 1784 and as a borough in 1812, effectively creating a governance system independent of Montgomery County. Norristown remained largely agrarian until the mid-19th century, at which time factories began to sprout up along the Schuylkill River. As nearby Philadelphia grew during the early 20th century, Norristown evolved into a “streetcar suburb” of the city and became increasingly dense. Today, it’s a bedroom community and employment center for Greater Philadelphia.

Geography

Norristown is located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. It’s about five miles from Philadelphia’s city limits and less than 30 minutes by car from the downtown core. Physically, Norristown is fully built-out and boasts a fairly regular street grid. The landscape is gently rolling and has a decent amount of tree cover. Major thoroughfares include U.S. 202, I-276 and I-476. Norristown is also served by a commuter rail line and light rail line, both of which connect to downtown Philadelphia.

Population and Demographics

Norristown has a population of about 35,000. Due to strict zoning codes and a lack of available land on which to build, this figure has remained more or less steady in recent years. Many Norristown residents commute to work in nearby Philadelphia or elsewhere in the Montgomery County suburbs. The community is home to many young families as well as single householders who appreciate its relatively cheap housing and easy access to Philadelphia.
