Fall Foliage Impacting

Fall is a beautiful season filled with picturesque vistas of colorful leaves in the Spring City, Pennsylvania, area. Unfortunately, those same charming leaves can present allergy hazards when they hit the ground. If your allergies are acting up this fall, the foliage collecting around you is a likely culprit.

The Hazards of Foliage on the Ground

Fall foliage is lovely while it’s still on the trees, but once those leaves begin to fall, they can become serious allergy hazards. Fallen leaves collect moisture on the ground, and the welcoming warmth found in the center of a large pile makes a cozy home for mold and mildew. These common allergens grow on the leaves, then travel with you on your shoes or clothing when you come into contact with them.

Fallen leaves can also collect irritants such as ragweed pollen or dust when they’re left sitting. Stirred up in a fall breeze, these can really cause your allergies to act up. Dispose of leaf piles if you can, and avoid walking through them to steer clear of these irritants.

Poorly Equipped Filtration Systems at Home

Your shoes and pants can easily pick up the allergens from fallen foliage outside. Keep these irritants under control in your home by doing all you can to leave the mess at the door. Create a drop spot for shoes and coats so they don’t come too far into the house.

Make sure your home is equipped to filter out the pollen, dust, and mold that does make its way in. Change your HVAC filter at least every three months or more often if you’re struggling with allergy issues. Consider additional measures to improve your indoor air quality (IAQ), such as an air cleaner or whole home air purifier.
